Purple Lime’s brand new initiative for Artisanal Training and Trade in Mauritius is set to become a hub for nurturing fresh and exciting talent, offering skills support and collaborative opportunities to young entrepreneurs as well as shining a light on the creative life of the island through an innovative programme of events
Purple Lime champions the Mauritius youth by advocating and enabling the Creative Economy.
Purple Lime have established an Artisanal Training and Trade Centre known as “The Creative Quarter” where they educate and empower disadvantaged youth to better their future through employment and entrepreneurship.
The Creative Quarter is a place where such young aspiring entrepreneurs can develop and hone their skills, where they can dream and allow their imaginations to run wild, to conceptualise new and exciting ideas and, with appropriate guidance and training, incubate their dream enterprise.
The Creative Quarter is a multi-disciplinary training centre that includes skills development in textiles, hot glass, clay and ceramic, semi-precious metals and stones, paint and other artisanal fields such as metal work, carpentry, interior decorating and upcycling. Most courses are in short-form workshops and all trainees and students are encouraged to participate in Purple Lime personal development and management programs.
Purple Lime have installed state of the art ceramic kilns, as well as glass slumping and fusing ovens, hot glass stations, industrial grade textile, carpentry and metal workshops and other high quality equipment. Such infrastructure turns learning into an experience where students can submerge themselves into boundless creativity.
This easy-to-access location in the central-north of Mauritius, with its lush gardens and wide open spaces, ideally lends itself to become the destination to host this imaginative space. The founders promise regular markets, festivals and fun family events to be hosted in the gardens where artisans can showcase their talent and where the community can partake in this invigorating space.
Purple Lime invites each and every person wishing to contribute to this great facility, to join in the fun workshops being presented by highly skilled and talented artisans. Workshops such as pottery, ceramic painting, glass bead making, lead glass and glass slumping, acrylic and oil paint techniques, pattern design and dress making, introduction to power-tools and upholstery etc. to name but a few, are to be hosted on a daily basis.
The public will be invited into the gardens for the most scrumptious food and craft markets, dancing in the park, music by moonlight, sound and colour festivals etc etc. keep a look-out for notifications as soon as covid is under control.
Purple Lime have taken on the lease for portions of the old sugar factory at The Mount on Royal Road in the picturesque Pamplemousses district of Mauritius, a mere hop and a skip from the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden, commonly known as the Pamplemousses Botanic Garden.
